Recent Trauma

You don’t have to carry it alone.

At Blue Sky Therapy, we are so grateful to offer EMDR Early Intervention following a Traumatic Event/Episode. EMDR Early Intervention is an EMDR-based procedure that can be offered after a recent traumatic event to prevent or reduce the risk of developing delayed onset PTSD and other trauma-related issues like depression, anxiety, and substance use.

When we experience trauma it is not uncommon to have intrusive thoughts or images, flashbacks, nightmares, irritability, avoidance, hypervigilance, excessive worry, feeling out of control, emotional and physical distress, feeling as if you are walking around in a daze, or memory loss about the event or pieces of the event. If you are experiencing this following a traumatic event, you may benefit from trauma-focused therapy, such as EMDR Early Intervention, with a skilled trauma therapist.

EMDR Early Intervention can be helpful following a recent traumatic episode because the "recent" aspect means the trauma is still relatively fresh in the brain's memory, often within days or weeks. At Blue Sky Therapy, we offer R-TEP (Recent Traumatic Episode Protocol) which is a comprehensive EMDR Early Intervention approach, aiming to address the trauma before it becomes fully consolidated and potentially leads to longer-term difficulties.

EMDR Early Intervention can be used following a recent traumatic event such as:

-Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) or plane crash

-Witnessing a death; an injury to another; or an accident

-Assault, Interpersonal Violence or other act(s) of violence

-Natural disasters (wildfire, earthquake, flood, hurricane, etc.)

-Gun violence

-Unexpected medical emergency/crisis/diagnosis (self or others)

-Sudden, unexpected death or sudden, unexpected loss

EMDR Early Interventions (EIs) can be very helpful for first responders, law enforcement, military, healthcare providers and Search & Rescue following a traumatic event.
